Spelman College Launches Scholarship Fund To Honor John Lewis’ Legacy

According to the, the traditionally Black college recently revealed plans to launch a scholarship fund in his honor.

The scholarship fund– which will be called after the late congressman– will economically support students who are social justice fellows. Every year, five students will receive $10,000 scholarships. “As we navigate today’s turbulent waters, we draw inspiration and guts for our obstacles from the Congressman’s decades of selfless sacrifice, ardent advocacy and steadfast dedication for not just racial equality, but equity for all,” checked out a statement from Spelman College President Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D. “Spelman was blessed to have him on our school, engaging with our students, various times over the years. Just last spring he encouraged our social justice fellows to remain watchful in the fight for fact and righteousness when the College signed up with the UNCF in honoring congressional legislators who have actually worked as real champions and strong advocates for HBCUs and their students.”
