Three Carson City students awarded Rosemary Nebesky Memorial Scholarships

Scholarships

Braedan Wedderburn, Sujwal Reddy Yeedunuthula, and Nora Ahumada were awarded the seventh annual Rosemary Nebesky Memorial Scholarships by the Carson City Symphony Association this year.

The scholarship was established by John and Jennifer Webley of Santa Rosa, Calif., in memory of Rosemary Nebesky, who loved music, loved children, and had been a friend and board member of the Carson City Symphony Association. It is awarded each year to one or more Carson City students age 5 to 17 for instrumental music lessons. The winners this year were selected from several well qualified applicants.

Braedan Wedderburn, 12 years old, is a sixth-grade student at Carson Middle School. He has been playing trumpet and cello for 1 year. Although he plays cello in his school orchestra, he hasn’t had private lessons. His orchestra director, Dr. Brian Fox, said Braedan is dedicated to learning cello and practices during his lunchtime at school. He will use the scholarship for private cello lessons with Priscilla Hawkins.

Sujwal Reddy Yedunuthula, 11 years old, is a sixth-grade student at Eagle Valley Middle School and has studied violin for 4 years and piano for 1 year, plays in Carson City Symphony’s Youth Strings intermediate ensemble, and successfully auditioned for the Northern Zone Honor Orchestra. His violin teacher, Sue Jesch, said Sujwal is a quick learner and thrives on being challenged. He will use the scholarship to continue private violin lessons.

Nora Ahumada, 13 years old, is an eighth-grade student at Eagle Valley Middle school. She has been studying violin for 5 years, beginning in the Symphony Youth Strings. She is now Principal First violin in her school orchestra, and participates in the Honor Orchestra, Solo and Ensemble Festival, and EVMS Chamber Orchestra. Her orchestra director, Dr. Fox, said Nora loves music and will be a lifelong musician. She will use the scholarship for private violin lessons with Laura Gibson, Associate Concertmaster of Carson City Symphony.

The next round of scholarships will be awarded in fall of 2023. For more information about the scholarship and the application process, contact the Symphony at 775-883-4154 or carsoncitysymphony@gmail.com.
